Description: First edition, third printing. Hardcover, blue cloth, no jacket. Water damage and staining to both interior and exterior. Binding cracked in the middle, and brittle elsewhere. Front endpaper is missing. Page 141/142 has an open tear, but it does not affect the text. Text unmarked, but an owner's name on half-title page. Description: Third printing. 8vo. Pp. 299. Blue cloth boards with gilt spine lettering and title to the front board in blind. Corners of boards very lightly bumped and a touch rubbed, the spine a touch sunned, with some light bumping and rubbing to the spine ends, with chipping to the gilt lettering to the very edges. Endpapers and title-page with very light foxing, a small torn hole in the blank space of p. 299, with a small paper break in one word to p. 297/98. Internally very clean otherwise, the binding lightly cocked, but overall a nice clean copy.

This third printing of Joyce's first novel was printed in January 1918 (although the Fifth printing says it was June 1918) although the title-page still has the 1917 date on it. The second printing was in April, 1917; the first printing preceded it by three months. Slocum & Cahoon 11 Original blue cloth, very slight rubbing at edges, spine split at front hinge, Brentano's label on back pastedown. Very good
