Illustrated with 20 steel [engraved] portraits, 20 wood engravings, 20 "ornamental titles in silhouette", 27 manuscript and autograph facsimiles. Dark brown cloth with titling & designs in gold and black on the spines and front covers, all edges gilt. Inner hinges on both volumes have cracked and split. Early owner's name in ink on both front flyleaves: Rosa Morton Laubham, Haverhill, Mass. 1884. Cover edges show light wear, white (paint?) stripe on front cover along spine of volume 2. Some occasional tanning to plates, page margins. The silhouette titlepages for the twenty sections of poems are a charming feature of this famous anthology; one is shown in the scan.
