Description: 1st 1904. Almost very good condition with no wrapper. Large format. Green pictorial cloth. 12 pretty colour illustrations. A play featuring fairies and the seasons. Bumping and wear to spine and corners. Some browning and foxing to spine and cover edges. Nicks to top corner of spine. Inscription in ink to front endpaper. All plates are present - 2 are detached, but still present and loosely inserted. Several plate pages have ink dots (.) to margin at very edges, near where book is bound. Some pencil annotation to one page in prelims. Foxing. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched!

Only a very little wear to edges of boards, mild sunning to spine. A little spotting to end papers. No inscriptions. A VG + copy of this title. Robertson [1866-1948] was a central figure in fin de siecle London artistic circles. The book is a faerie play by Robertson, a genre enormously popular in the Victorian age which he has Illustrated himself. His artwork is reminiscent of the flat planes of William Nicholson with a more ethereal edge in the subject matter.

Graham Robertson (1866-1948), a British illustrator, painter and author. He was a collector, donating much of his work to the Tate Gallery, and an important figure in the arts of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Oscar Wilde and Kenneth Grahame were amongst the many notable people who knew Graham Robertson.A first edition of this colourful play.Illustrated with twelve plates in colour. Description: Confidant of Wilde - p.p. 62 - 2 ads plus 12 fine designs in colour by the author. Quarto. Original decorative cloth. Robertson, a talented young artist, was a friend of Wilde and Robert Ross. At the first night of Lady Windermere’s Fan both Robertson & Ross wore green carnations as did Wilde when he addressed the audience. While the carnations were meaningless Wilde was delighted with the rampant speculation that the trio were members of a Masonic cabal. Robertson was also friendly with the Donegal writer, William Allingham from whom he purchased his house in Surrey.
