Description: First edition. The author's third novel, a study of the romantic temperament and of conflicts of loyalty set in Scotland during the Jacobite rising of 1745. Octavo: viii, 366 p. with the publisher's ads for John Burnet of Barns and Scholar Gipsies in the rear. Original green cloth binding, with white stamping. The contents are a little shaken, with some foxing to the publisher's ads. The endpapers have been replaced, with some expert restoration to the corners and tips. A bit of shelfwear to the boards, which are faded along the spine.
