The error on page 174 is also present. There is some sunning on the spine and dirt along the edges with some tiny rubs at the corners. There is an exposed separation of the spine between the front cover and ffep but the spine and text are tight and complete. There is an old bookplate affixed to the inside board but the lavender and green endpapers are clean and bright.

A presentable copy of Cather's historical novel of the American west, said to have been a strong influence on Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. There was a signed, limited issue of 200 copies, generally easy to obtain, but inscribed copies of the trade edition are infrequent in commerce.

Contemporary ink inscription to half-title page, else a near fine copy with some oxidation to the gold on the spine, in a jacket with a small light stain to the spine, which is ever so slightly tanned. The jacket is a little shorter than the book, as in a number of first printing copies previously owned by us. A very attractive example of a scarce book.
