Description: 1889. Reprint. [iv], 596pp. The Princess Casamassima is a novel by Henry James, first published as a serial in The Atlantic Monthly in 1885 and 1886 and then as a book, in three volumes, in 1886. This copy is a reprint of a later single volume edition. It is the story of an intelligent but confused young London bookbinder, Hyacinth Robinson, who becomes involved in radical politics and a terrorist assassination plot. The book is bound in the original decorated paper covered boards with black titling on the spine and front board and publisher's name on the rear board. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling on the boards. The corners are rubbed with a little loss to the paper on the corner tips. The spine strip appears to have become loose in the past and a previous owner has carried out a home repair by pasting it back in place directly onto the text block. This has left the binding showing through down the spine edges and on parts of the bottom 3 1/2" of the spine. The contents are tight and clean with a little scattered light foxing, including some faint marks on the half-title and title pages. There is no inscription.

Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Top of pages dyed grey have the odd minor scratch. End-papers tanned. Inside boards bit tanned with the odd small mark/minor foxing. Pages little tanned. Occasional small mark/spot of foxing to pages. No other faults. All books described honestly and accurately. Paypal accepted.
