Description: London: William Heinemann, 1900. James reports in his Preface that these notes were "gathered. a number of years ago." It was printed in America by Osgood in 1884, but lacked illustrations; this is the First Illustrated Edition and the First English Edition. Interestingly, Heinemann states that it is "not to be imported into the USA," probably in an attempt at copyright protection. Gray cloth binding with titling in black on the spine and both covers. Clean text; 270 pages; top-edge gilt, others rough-cut. Very bright and fresh. There are 94 illustrations by Joseph Pennell. A Very Good (Plus) copy. Bumped a bit, with light rubbing, spine a tad darkened. The rear hinge is cracked but seems to be holding well. . First UK Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. Illus. by Joseph Pennell. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
