Description: An early edition in Good condition. This is not a first printing, as it lacks the date on the title page, but the presentation label to the inside front cover is dated June 1914 and gives an indication of when this copy was printed. Covers are marked, edges scuffed, 302 pages plus advertisementsminor foxing and use wear/marks, binding tight but a little stressed in places, with the threads visible along the gutter, spine rolled. Overall a Good, early copy of this classic story. Complete with the colour frontispiece (protected by its tissue guard) and the seven full page colour plates, as called for. Original gray cloth with gilt titles, red and green ornaments framing a pasted small colour illustration. Frontispiece colour illustration with tissue guard plus 7 colour illustration, compl. collated. Ornamental end papers. One tear in illustration, backed with archival tape. Some smaller smudges on edges, minimal fraying at head and foot of spine, o/w a very nice firm copy, for a children's book exceptionally well preserved, without markings.
