Description: A beautifully hand-coloured collection of plates from Oliver Goldsmiths important and influential work. Written by Irish author Oliver Goldsmith (1728-1774). A writer of both fiction, poetry and non-fiction, Goldsmith's other works include his celebrated novel, 'The Vicar of Wakefield', as well as biographical and historical works such as 'The Life of Richard Nash', 'Account of the Augustan Age in England', and 'The History of England, from the Earliest Times to the Death of George II'.Undated due to a lacking title page; dated from copies on Jisc. This is volume III alone, containing the hand-coloured plates. With a frontispiece illustration of the author, as well as seventy-two full plate coloured illustrations, depicting all manner of mammals, fish, seashells, butterflies and birds. All with tissue guards bar III, V, VI, VII, XXXX, XXXV and LX.Collated, all plates are present, lacking the title page. In a half calf binding. Externally generally smart, minor rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and extremities has resulted in slight loss to the leather.
