Description: First edition, limited to 1,000 numbered copies printed at The Fanfare Press (this being #851). Tall 8vo. 86pp. Quarter brown leather-backed boards, lettered in gold at the spine. With a small title page device designed by Stephen Gooden. A tiny trace of wear to the tip of a single corner and some light partial toning to the endpapers. A very good copy in slightly nicked and toned dust wrapper. The author's final work, which he was still writing at the time of his death. It was originally intended as a general introduction to the uniform edition of his works, but expended so considerably as to warrant separate publication, even though only about half of what he planned was completed, and only a portion of that revised.

Description: The first edition of George Moore's Communication. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. Limited edition published by the Nonesuch Press. Number 18 of 1000 copies. Title page design by Stephen Gooden. Planning of the book by Francis Meynell and printed by Ernest Ingham. The Nonesuch Press specialised in limited edition and private press. They were unusual among private presses as they used a small Albion press to design the books, but had them printed by commercial printers. In doing so, books with the quality of a fine-press were produced, but available to a wider audience at lower prices. Moore's Communication is first and foremost a memoir and, as he states to the opening passage is 'the story of how literature hailed me'. George Moore was an Irish novelist, short-story writer, poet, memoirist and dramatist. In original quarter cloth with paper covered boards and brown dustwrapper. Externally, lovely condition. Dustwrapper is excellent with just the smallest amount of chipping to extremities at the rear wrap. Red ticket with number 604 pasted to front wrap. Internally, firmly bound. This was the third book by Moore to be published by the Nonesuch Press, and Francis Meynell had intended to include a portrait of the author by Stephen Gooden. Two sittings were done, but the portrait was not completed. George Moore died in January 1933.
