Description: First thus. Illustrated by Charles Robinson. Dark blue wraps are mildly soiled. Gilt decoration on cover and spine is a bit rubbed but still bright. Gilt decoration on back cover is especially bright. Corners bumped, edges mildly shelf worn, shelf wear to head and tail of spine. Binding fairly tight. Endpapers mildly soiled with previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown. Interior fairly clean except for faint damp stain to top right corner of much of text block, not interfering with type or illustrations. Gilt edge at top of text block is a bit scratched/rubbed but still bright. A loved but still beautiful copy of this early edition of this classic.

Description: VERY RARE This 1895 book is a reprint of the original book of 64 poems published in 1885. This book does not have any illustrations like the later reprints do. It was published one year after Robert Louis Stevenson died and is identical to the first edition with same number of pages and poem titles. Due to the age of the book, pages have yellowed but are clean. Book cover is slightly soiled. Bottom and side of pages are deckled. Top of pages has gilt coating. This book is considered to be one of the most influential children's works of the 19th century. For its age, the book is in excellent shape.

[32]pp. Two stapled signatures of 8 leaves each, illustrated in black-and-white. Leaves measure 7 5/8 by 5 1/8 inches. Pictorial self-wrappers. The leaves of the published trade issue, consisting of 136 pages, measure 9 3/4 by 7 3/4 inches. Front cover (i.e. illustrated title leaf) has one-inch surface tear, with half-inch loss of printed illustration, one small chip at spine margin with no loss, else a near fine, partially unopened copy. Scarce in this advance state, in slightly smaller format than final published text. Rare in this format.
