Green ribbed cloth binding with gilt decorative "TH" on the front cover; titling on the spine in gilt. Clean text; vii, 413 pages; followed by a 2-page map of Hardy's fictional "Wessex;" then two pages of publisher's adverts for Hardy's works. Frontis illustration of The Castle of Mai-Dun; top-edge is gilt. Corners are bumped and there is wear to the margins of the spine (resulting in a chip to the crown). A sound copy, despite theses defects. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Minus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Description: This particularly well preserved first edition is bound in uniform finely ribbed green cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine and similar TH cypher to the upper board. There are gilt top page edges and others untrimmed. The stock is tight, bright and unmarked. There is some typical mild spotting to the endpapers. A Changed Man and Other Tales is a collection of twelve tales. The collection was originally published in book form in this edition, although all of the tales had been previously published in newspapers or magazines from 1881 to 1900. There are eleven short stories and a novella The Romantic Adventures of a Milkmaid. At the end of the book there is a map of the imaginary Wessex of Hardy's novels and poems. Ref V V V 2
