Some staining to covers of both volumes. Foxing throughout in both volumes. Stitched binding is tight in both volumes. Original binding on both volumes. William Osler called this book, "the most important medical work written in this country by a layman."

Bindings pristine, probably rebound at a later date, mild foxing to first and last few pages of both volumes, damp staining on bottoms of last dozen pages of volume 2, book plate of Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland and library stamp on both frontispieces. No library markings on the bindings. Very good. First edition.

Hartford: Hudson & Goodwin, 1799. First edition. Webster surveyed known data from epidemics since the time of Christ in order to prove his theory that these diseases were not contagious but were caused by environmental changes. Despite his incorrect conlculsions, his work was widely read and quite influential.
