Annotated Reference Guide to Collectible Books and Original Prints

Rand, McNally Annotated Bibliography & Selected Collectible Books

When one thinks about maps and atlases, most think about publishing giant Rand-McNally. But, who were they? Named for William Rand and Andrew McNally, millions of Americans have turned to their maps for road trips since the 1800s. Whether it be a road trip across the country, or just to the next town over, Rand-McNally was often your reference guide. And now with online and electronic mapping, old atlases are becoming scarce and valuable to collectors.

Rand-McNally published more than just maps and atlases. They are also known for publishing children's books starting in the 1950s and there was even a series of Chicago Institute of Art books published by the Chicago-based atlas company. So, when you see the publisher as being Rand-McNally, don't automatically assume it's going to be an atlas.
