William Faulkner's appeal as a master of Southern disposition and a marred society in Mississippi moves beyond his novels The Hamlet and The Town to complete the trilogy with The Mansion. The saga of murder and intrigue envelops the Snopes family and culminates in the spiraling undoing of its members. Faulkner plies his craft well in his narrative which provides readers with more views of the town of Jefferson's events and citizens. The first edition of The Mansion published by Random House (New York) in 1959 came out with 500 hand-numbered copies with a signature by Faulkner on the limitation page. With a dust jacket in fine condition, this edition has sold at auction for $1800. Lower end prices are $100-$200.
