First Edition Prices, Values and Auction Results

Contemporary poet, literary critic, and printer, American William Everson sprung up through the Beat Generation and is recognized by the name of Brother Antonius. On Printing, first published in 1992 by Book Club of California (San Francisco), is a collection of 7 works by Everson discussing the history of private printing, his own experiences in printing with Equinox Press, and on interactions with printers, writers, publishers, etc. First editions are attractive to collectors because of the limited number of copies printed by Peter Rutledge Koch. Of the 400 copies, 15-20% were lost.andnbsp; The value increases when the rare erratum slip and the printer's apologies slip, which were sent separately from the book, are found.

The lowest overall price realized in our sample was $69 and the highest overall price realized was $180. The overall average price was $133 and the median price realized for the book was $156. There were 10 auctions (77%) with a price realized below the low estimate, 0 auctions (0%) exceeding the high estimates, and 3 auctions (23%) within the range of the low and high estimates.
