Holy pilgrimages to Egypt were a very popular topic to readers, with many travel accounts written down and recorded. One such account is by Constantin Volney, entitled Travels through Syria and Egypt. Volney recounts in two volumes his travels through Egypt, spending most of his time in Cairo.
